We're feeling fitter and stronger

"We started fitness walking, but found it a bit monotonous, so when we were introduced to Nordic walking suddenly the whole activity came alive. It's definitely addictive and tremendous fun.

We do it six days a week. I feel I've strengthened my whole body and physically healthier and like I want to do more things. I've got a bigger lung capacity and my heart is performing a lot better than it used to be.

Rod - I've trimmed down my waist and the little bumps on the side have disappeared. It's just sheer fun!

Jacqui - I've improved my golf swing, which is amusing. I think I've added about 20 metres distance to a normal drive, and as well as that, my cardiac fitness has greatly improved. A very small cardiac problem I had appears to have diminished greatly.
Rodney and Jacqueline Cole - Tweed Heads, NSW

I lost two stone

"I'm 69 years old and about nine months ago was 16 stone. And whilst I've had a good diet and played tennis all my life, I found I kept putting the weight on and I found that Nordic walking was a way of getting rid of the weight. Now I've lost the weight I feel good and much fitter than I was. Although I'm active, it keeps the muscle toning up and apart from that, its a great social activity."
Brian Davis - Tweed Heads, NSW

Reduced my chronic back pain

"I tried Nordic walking and was just staggered by the results. I've got a bad back. I've had fusion, which started six years ago. I had one operation at 65 and another at 66 and that give me 18 months of relief, but since then I've just gone downhill. It got to the point that I could only walk 100m and I'd have to stop and rest.

The first time I tried the sticks, I walked about 300m and looked back and was amazed. I hadn't walked that far in years. I couldn't even walk to the beach, where as I used to walk up and down the beach. And I loved it down there. Now I can walk to the beach and up and down. A kilometre and a half is no trouble. Now if I want to go anywhere with the wife, I can use the poles and just pack them away when I get there.

I feel so much better because I'm not restricted anymore. I feel marvellous ever since I started and I'm on a high because I look forward to the next time I'm going out.

You have to try Nordic walking. I was really restricted. But now its quite remarkable.
Barry Shaw - Banora Point, NSW

Boosted my sports performance

"I'm a professional triathlete and I do a lot of running, so being able to take the pressure off my lower limbs has been great. Also being able to add an upper body workout is fantastic for maintaining my race fitness."
Marti Bennett- Tweed Heads, NSW

Enhanced my knee rehabilitation

"Because of the injuries to my knees from a car accident six years ago I haven't been able to think about walking any distance. I use my poles in the therapy pool as part of my physiotherapy regime.

The Nordic walking poles have got me back on the beach and I'm a lot stronger in the legs. It's worked wonders."
Di Woolard - Yamba, NSW

Recovery from my ankle injury

"I wanted to lose 5 - 6 kgs and without any injuries and this is the way to do it. Walking and running was putting stress on a badly strained ankle. but this is the only activity that didn't put and stress on my ankle. Now its almost back to full strength, and at the same time I've been able to exercise.

If you like outdoor sports and you like exercising to a peak level of just to a nice easy level, no matter what age you are, I'd give it a go. Particularly if you are someone who is a bit cautious about a knee, an ankle or even a shoulder injury, this is a great way to get fit."
Declan Barnett - Brisbane, QLD

Increased my wellbeing

"I've become much stronger and my body feels much better. I've had less lower back ache, which I've had for years. I also feel much better psychologically. Its increased my ability to be able to do more than I have been able to, considering I'm going to be 70 this year."
Gwyneth Riggler - Yamba, NSW

Taking care of my joints

"I used to be a runner and love the outdoors, but I decided its not good for my body to be pounding the streets anymore. So when I discovered Nordic walking, I thought it was the best thing - physically, fitness, outdoors, the social aspects and therefore motivation.

Don't hesitate, start it. It's great for fitness. It gives you four limbs instead of two. You've got the poles for extra push and support and the health benefits are fantastic."
